FCRA Compliance

Template notice. This page summarizes obligations in plain language for orientation only. It is not legal advice. Have final wording reviewed by counsel, and provide consumers the official A Summary of Your Rights Under the FCRA document.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a federal law that governs how consumer reports — including background checks — are obtained and used. ACE Background Check operates as a consumer reporting agency (CRA) and is committed to supporting our clients' compliance and protecting consumers' rights.

What the FCRA Requires

The FCRA sets rules for accuracy, fairness, and privacy of information in consumer reports. It defines obligations for CRAs like ACE and for the employers, landlords, and other "end users" who request reports.

Permissible Purpose

Consumer reports may only be obtained for a purpose permitted by the FCRA — most commonly employment screening or tenant screening with the individual's authorization. Clients must certify their permissible purpose before ACE furnishes any report.
